The book introduces techniques and technology that enable mobility in a series of interactive modules. Each chapter covers a different aspect of mobility, as the book moves from low-level to high-level detail. The first two chapters explore low-level motor power and examine the wheels and legs of robots and the principles of kinesiology. This is followed by an in-depth look at perception, including the description of several "ready-made" sensors and analysis to interpret the sensed data. The last two chapters address the top-level challenges of localization and cognition, and discuss successful localization strategies, independent mapping, and navigation efficiency.
